Doodled Printed Napkin Journal Art

Doodled Printed Napkin Journal Art

I love working with printed napkins and tissue paper, dont you? Jan’s 52 Play Dates challenge for last week was to use tissue paper to create a doodled piece of art, so I just had to give it a whirl.

I started out by gluing random pieces of printed napkins and tissue paper with watered down pva glue onto card stock and leaving them to air dry naturally – that was the hardest part for me as I wanted to use them straight away!!

Once they were dry I painted over them using a light wash of watercolour and gouache paints and let that dry out, finally I added detail to them using coloured markers and a black and white pen for outlining.

Heres a couple of my finished pieces below, I havent finished them all yet. You can see the before and after photos to give you an idea of what they looked like before I destroyed them using my paints and pens :)

Week 3 Journal Page

Week 3 Journal Page

This is my journal page for week 3, Ive decided I am creating a different calendar page for each week of the year rather than 1 for the month, this way I can art up the page more. I am going to fill in the circles each day with the highlights of that particular day,  rather than go into extreme detail; got up, brushed my teeth, had a wash, walked the dog, drank coffee, logged into facebook type of thing.

This is another doodle style page, Im having a lot of fun exploring doodles and dont plan to stop any time soon.

I received some gorgeous happy mail (raks) from my facebook friends Pippa Gore and Sue Barlow recently and wanted to feature them somehow in my art journal. I didnt want to spoil the precious artwork so I used hair grips to temporarily affix the postcard and artist trading card to the page so I can remove and admire whenever I want :)

Here is my finished doodled embellished journal page below featuring their lovely art:

Book Of Days Journal Pages – Work In Progress

Book Of Days Journal Pages – Work In Progress

I already uploaded these journal pages and forgot to share them on my blog! Dearie me…they are for the Book Of Days project and are all currently work in progress as I will be adding more to them at later dates. I thought rather than do separate posts I would share them altogether in one post.

Friday 13th Journal Page

Friday 13th Journal Page

Im really a big fan of Gothic horror, Friday 13th, superstitions, vampires (not the sparkly kind) werewolves, witches, Alfred Hitchcock and all things dark and gory, I love being scared to death by horror flicks, they make me smile and laugh out loud, Im kinda twisted like that.

I love all the horror movie cliche’s and the inevitable predictable story lines where the girl always runs back upstairs in the house where the axe murderer is waiting for her, and where the evil monster bad guy is never really dead; he always springs back to life for one last hack and slash….

So to commemorate our first Friday the 13th of this year I decided to create a quick journal page which you can see below, I had a lotta fun playing with this one:

Round Peg In A Square Hole Journal Page

Round Peg In A Square Hole Journal Page

Effy on Book Of Days gave us 2 challenges this week for our Book Of Days Journals.

Challenge 1 was to use mosaics somehow in our journal which I accomplished with ease simply because I adore working with multicolour bits of paper :)

Challenge 2 was a little harder for me; we where tasked with ‘doing that challenges us’ – for me simply making art every day is a bit of a challenge in itself especially with the old fibro symptoms :) But after some soul searching I decided to take a tongue in cheek approach to my feelings of not ‘fitting in’. The wording ‘do you ever feel like a round peg trying to fit in a square hole’ sums up my feelings on this exactly.

Here’s my finished journal page including a couple of step by step photo:

Step 1: Cut up random squares using scrap papers and glue to journal page with glue:

Step 2: Smear a wash of watered down gesso over entire page, when dry paint on a layer of thinned down goache paint as below:

Finished journal page below, I outlined the squares using fine liner pen, doodling by Sharpie and dots by pro-marker:
